Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 713 AM EST Thu Jan 26 2017 Valid 00Z Fri Jan 27 2017 - 00Z Fri Feb 03 2017 The headline of the upcoming week is the likelihood of a cold frontal passage next Sunday, with current guidance in strong agreement on its occurrence and timing. In general, the guidance shows excellent agreement in the pattern expected not just near Hawai'i, but through a majority of the northern Pacific. The main impact of the approach and passage of the cold front will be to sweep a potential low in the tropics northward to the east of the 50th state and decrease trades through Saturday, followed by a strong increase in post-frontal northeast trades for Sunday through Tuesday or Wednesday once the cold front passes. Winds should decrease once more as a cold front moves through the Papahanaumokuakea National Marine Monument mid next week. Roth/James
