Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 712 AM EST Sun Jan 29 2017 Valid 00Z Mon Jan 30 2017 - 00Z Mon Feb 06 2017 In the subtropical and tropical central Pacific, the guidance shows very good overall agreement in the pattern expected. A strong surface low tracking generally eastward around 35 degrees north is pushing a cold front across the islands at this time, which should clear the archipelago later today. This allows high pressure to build southward and dominate the weather pattern, increasing northeast trade winds today through Tuesday before weakening as a second front moves slowly through the Papahanaumokuakea National Marine Monument. This boundary should stall before reaching the main islands Friday before a third cold front approaches on Sunday. Thursday into Friday and again on Sunday appear to be the best chances for rains across the western main islands (Niihau, Kaua'i and O'ahu). Otherwise, precipitable water values remain near or below 1.25", which should indicate minimal chances for shower activity from this afternoon onward. Roth
