Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 652 AM EST Sat Feb 04 2017 Valid 00Z Sun Feb 05 2017 - 00Z Sun Feb 12 2017 In respect to Hawai'i, the guidance remains in good agreement on the flow pattern expected. A trio of cyclonic gyres move across the subtropics and Mid-Latitudes north of the state this period, bringing at least two cold fronts by the archipelago into next Saturday. The system passing by Monday into Tuesday has a good tap of tropical moisture due to the dynamics aloft which increases precipitation chances across the region. Periods of heavy rainfall look likely, with gusty winds as well with the passage of the front. Winds veer back to north behind the boundary by Wednesday/Thursday which should quickly dry things out. Another cold front moving through the Papahanaumokuakea National Marine Monument Thursday and into next Friday moves into the main islands Friday/Saturday which should allow winds to become southwesterly from Friday into next Saturday and could bring more moisture/higher precipitable water values than the early week system -- heavy rains could again be possible. Trade winds will prove elusive over the next seven days. Roth
