Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 655 AM EST Sun Feb 05 2017 Valid 00Z Mon Feb 06 2017 - 00Z Mon Feb 13 2017 In respect to Hawai'i, the guidance remains in good agreement on the flow pattern expected. A pair of cyclonic gyres move across the subtropics and Mid-Latitudes north of the state, bringing three cold fronts near the archipelago into next weekend. The system passing by Monday into Tuesday has a good tap of tropical moisture due to the dynamics aloft which increases precipitation chances across the region. Periods of heavy rainfall are possible, with gusty winds as well with the passage of the front. Winds veer back to north behind the boundary by Wednesday/Thursday which should quickly dry things out. Another cold front moving through the Papahanaumokuakea National Marine Monument Thursday and into next Friday moves into the main islands Friday/Saturday which should allow winds to become southwesterly from Friday into next Saturday and could bring more moisture/higher precipitable water values than the early week system -- heavy rains could again be possible. A third frontal boundary moves into the far northwestern atolls next Sunday, switching winds back to southwesterly. Trade winds will prove elusive over the next 7.5 days. Roth
