Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 719 AM EST Fri Feb 17 2017 Valid 00Z Sat Feb 18 2017 - 00Z Sat Feb 25 2017 Upper ridging to the east/southeast of the Big Island will continue to weaken as a shortwave slides east along 30-35N on Saturday. This will support a cold front pushing through the area with winds increasing from the north and then northeast and remain elevated next week as a surface high slides eastward along 30N. The 00Z ECMWF was still just a bit quicker than the 00Z-06Z GFS with the front but a middle ground solution should suffice. Precipitation appears to be rather light except for over favored terrain areas as most of the forcing stays well north. Post-FROPA, heights are forecast to slowly rise as another shortwave deepens to the northeast of the state, likely closing off near 37N/154W by early Wednesday. This may sink southward along 150W but the tropical moisture plume should remain southeast of the area. Fracasso
