Hawaii is likely to remain under the influence of weak to moderate
southwesterly mid-level flow through the weekend and next week as
the trough portion of an omega-block remains well-established and
periodically is reinforced immediately north of the islands. The
main impacts of this pattern is more variable and lighter surface
winds as 1 or 2 cold fronts stall and then weaken over the area as
well as scattered precipitation, with the models in good agreement
that the best chances for more widespread and heavier
precipitation will be next Thursday and Friday. Regarding model
preferences, a nearly equal blend of deterministic and ensemble
guidance is most recommended to address small-scale differences as
well as the growing spread.
