Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 727 AM EST Sun Mar 05 2017 Valid 00Z Mon Mar 06 2017 - 00Z Mon Mar 13 2017 The omega-block across the northern Pacific is depicted by the majority of guidance to evolve toward a rex-block by next Tuesday...with the low portion of the rex-block near 40N/165W moving very little for several days afterward. The main impacts of the blocking pattern and low will be to allow weak cold fronts to slow down and stall over the islands...which will help maintain precipitation chances through all of next week as well as variable and mostly light winds. Models also agree that the highest chances for more widespread precipitation will be toward the end of the week. The main difference seen in the guidance concerns how the low portion of the rex-block may weaken...with the 00z ecmwf the most aggressive in splitting the low into 2 pieces which then separate westward and eastward...while the 00-06z gfs maintain the low longer. The current model spread and pattern have WPC leaning toward the gfs direction of the solution envelope. James
