The omega-block across the northern Pacific is depicted by the
majority of guidance to evolve toward a rex-block the next couple
days, then drift southwestward by next weekend, with the primary
model difference of concern occurring by next Monday, with the
00-06z gfs allowing the eastern low portion of the rex-block to
shift more eastward then the more stationary ecmwf and its own
ensemble members. Given the strength and persistence of the
blocking pattern, the more persistent and stationary ecmwf is
preferred at this time with near to slightly above average
confidence. Regarding impacts, the main implication of the slowly
evolving pattern is stalling and weakening cold fronts across the
islands, as the low is periodically reinforced by shortwave
troughs, with scattered precipitation expected most days through
next weekend, along with variable and mainly light winds.
