Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 813 AM EDT Tue Mar 21 2017 Valid 00Z Wed Mar 22 2017 - 00Z Wed Mar 29 2017 The mid-latitude upper-level pattern over the Pacific will remain amplified but mostly zonal, while mean ridging extends across the entire Central Tropical Pacific. This particular regime should last for the bulk of the forecast period with no frontal passages expected to reach the island chain. At the surface, a series of anticyclones passing to the north will ensure a general trade wind regime. There may be brief upticks in the intensity of these winds given any increase in synoptic pressure gradients. Expect only some windward showers for the islands but these will be minimal. By the very end of the forecast period, the gfs and ecmwf indicate a possible weakness with the upper ridging which could allow a frontal zone to begin approaching the state next Tuesday and a narrow plume of precipitable water enhancement.
