Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 819 AM EDT Mon Apr 10 2017 Valid 00Z Tue Apr 11 2017 - 00Z Tue Apr 18 2017 Expect an increase in wet weather across mainly the western and central Islands by the middle of this week as an upper level shortwave slides across or just to the north of the state Tuesday through Friday. Even though the surface front itself looks to remain north of the state, instability aloft and increasing moisture in the lower and middle levels should be enough to fuel moderate to locally heavy showers. While there is good agreement synoptically, the operational 06z GFS continues to show a better signal for resulting rainfall across the state than the latest 00z ECMWF. However, given the overall setup, the potential is definitely there for a solution closer to that of what the GFS is depicting. By next weekend, the upper shortwave moves east of the state and the mean upper ridge returns which should bring about drier conditions and a relaxing of the trade winds. Santorelli
