Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 809 AM EDT Tue May 02 2017 Valid 00Z Wed May 03 2017 - 00Z Wed May 10 2017 A rather wrapped-up upper low, currently located about 300 miles southwest of the Big island, should continue to weaken and drift southwestward over the next day or two. This also includes a decaying inverted surface trough extending southwest to northeast across the state. By Wednesday, the operational and ensemble guidance indicate upper ridging will build across the state and remain intact through the upcoming weekend. This should allow more traditional light to moderate trades to return with possible windward showers. Early next week, ensembles show a rather amplified upper trough and upper vortex transitioning across the Pacific, including a strong surface cold front, which will attempt to reach the Islands but it appears at the moment the upper ridge holds on.
