Upper ridging initially aligned over the islands will keep a
frontal boundary from pressing southeastward through the state on
Sunday.  However...as the ridge axis gradually shifts
eastward...energy within the base of an approaching upper trough
is expected to close off northwest of the islands on Monday
(between 20-30N and near 170W).  Model guidance has been
consistent in advertising the energy will retrograde slowly
westward before filling in and weakening during the later half of
the week...potentially increasing the chance for showers over
Kauai.  Models are also in agreement that an upper ridge axis will
re-align over the state and strong surface high pressure will
build in north of the islands by next weekend.
