Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 807 AM EDT Thu May 11 2017 Valid 00Z Fri May 12 2017 - 00Z Fri May 19 2017 Strong high pressure about to settle over 40N 150W late this week into the weekend, then weaken a bit as it drifts southeastward into early next week, will support several days of moderate to brisk trades. By next Wednesday-Thursday winds may weaken a bit as the high moves to the east-northeast. From now into early next week there will be potential for some locally enhanced rainfall with a persistent weakness aloft in the vicinity of the state and precipitable water values (PWATs) tending to be above normal. Best focus will be over windward locations but some activity may stray into leeward areas. By late in the period the latest GFS/GEFS/ECMWF runs agree that PWATs will likely decrease somewhat. Around early-mid week there are still some modest differences with a weak upper trough/embedded low forecast to evolve just east of the state. Around Wednesday the 00z ECMWF is still a little west of most other guidance with the ECMWF mean remaining a decent compromise at that time. Guidance returns to better agreement Thursday as the feature begins to drift eastward away from area. Rausch
