Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 754 AM EDT Fri May 12 2017 Valid 00Z Sat May 13 2017 - 00Z Sat May 20 2017 Strong high pressure persists over a large portion of the Pacific northeast of Hawaii this weekend through next week, with a ridge of high pressure forecast to remain north of the state. This supports several days of moderate to brisk trades. From today into early next week there will be potential for some locally enhanced rainfall with a persistent weakness aloft in the vicinity of the state and precipitable water values (PWATs) tending to be above normal. Most showers will be over windward locations and coastal areas. By later next week the latest GFS/GEFS/ECMWF runs agree that PWATs will likely decrease to below normal values. This should lead to decreased amounts and shower coverage. Petersen
