Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 800 AM EDT Mon May 29 2017 Valid 00Z Tue May 30 2017 - 00Z Tue Jun 06 2017 Trades will soon begin to strengthen as an east-west surface ridge to the north of the state becomes better defined, with winds likely remaining at moderate to brisk levels through the week. As high pressure retreats into the eastern Pacific expect trades to weaken a little by the weekend and early next week. Generally windward focused shower activity should be in the lighter half of the spectrum as most guidance shows precipitable water values remaining within one standard deviation of normal most of the time. Localized pockets of greater moisture may exist near the Big Island at the start of the period and over other locations late in the period. Aloft the shortwave/compact upper low that recently crossed the state will drift gradually to about 150W Tuesday-Wednesday and then shear out to the east. Higher heights will prevail behind this feature but with a relative lack of definition. Rausch
