Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 817 AM EDT Fri Jun 16 2017 Valid 00Z Sat Jun 17 2017 - 00Z Sat Jun 24 2017 A closed upper low and weakness between two very large subtropical ridges over the Pacific and currently over the Hawaiian Islands will slowly retrograde through the upcoming weekend. By doing so, the 00z gfs and ecmwf continue to show slightly elevated moisture pool of 1.25" precipitable water values within the best upper difluence aloft. This may result in more shower activity within the mean easterly component and trades. By the start of next work week, a digging upper trough over the central Pacific will allow the 500mb vort to gain latitude and eventually merge/phase with the smaller scale feature. Most of the global models keep the associated frontal zone well northwest of the islands and mainly trades intact into late next week. Musher
