Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 812 AM EDT Sun Jun 18 2017 Valid 00Z Mon Jun 19 2017 - 00Z Mon Jun 26 2017 Hawai'i will remain in a broad weakness between to large subtropical ridges over the next week. As an upper-level trough amplifies north of the Islands through Tue, a surface front will make some southward progress toward the Islands, but should stall before reaching even the northernmost Islands. This pattern should keep generally weak to moderate low-level easterlies in place through the next week. The deterministic model solutions as well as the ensembles show generally good agreement on the large-scale details of the pattern as well as the amplifying trough north of the Islands. One additional feature of note is an upper low initially near 27N/128W. Models show good agreement that this feature will propagate southwestward around the eastern of the two subtropical ridges into Tue before turning more westward and gradually washing out as it approaches the Islands. This feature seems to be generally associated with lower precipitable water values, so a significant impact in terms of precipitation is not anticipated. If anything afternoon shower activity associated with the trades may lessen slightly by next weekend as a result. Ryan
