Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 759 AM EDT Sat Jul 01 2017 Valid 00Z Sun Jul 02 2017 - 00Z Sun Jul 09 2017 Surface high pressure meandering well north of the state will settle to the north-northwest of the area during Tuesday-Saturday. Following the passage of a weakening surface trough and upper level feature this weekend, expect trades to be on the brisk side during the first half of next week. By late week into next weekend most guidance suggests that the surface gradient and trade flow should weaken somewhat though not quite to the extent suggested by the 00z GFS. The combination of above normal precipitable water values and an upper level weakness passing over the state this weekend may support some locally enhanced rainfall. Then for most of the coming week shower activity should be on the lighter side as precipitable water decreases to near or somewhat below normal levels. Another upper level weakness may pass through the area around Friday and promote a slight increase in showers. Rainfall will likely favor windward terrain but could stray to other locations at times.
