Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 808 AM EDT Mon Jul 03 2017 Valid 00Z Tue Jul 04 2017 - 00Z Tue Jul 11 2017 High pressure initially settling to the north-northwest of the state will gradually build eastward Friday-Monday. This high will support fairly brisk trades through the period with strongest winds likely to be early this week. There is still a hint of a brief weakening of the surface gradient around late week/weekend with the passage of some energy aloft from the north/northeast. However models have generally trended weaker with this energy compared to yesterday so trends would suggest that any changes in trades may be minimal. Expect precipitable water values to be above normal early this week and then trend to somewhat below normal over most locations by the latter half of the week and continuing into Sunday-Monday. There is still potential for an axis of enhanced moisture passing to the north/northwest of the state to brush the far northwestern islands around the weekend. Thus far guidance has been variable in exactly how far southeast this area of higher moisture will extend. On average expect windward favored showers in the lighter half of the spectrum. There may be some local enhancement early this week before precipitable water decreases, and again toward the weekend depending on evolution of energy aloft. Rausch
