Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 826 AM EDT Tue Jul 4 2017 Valid 00Z Wed Jul 5 2017 - 00Z Wed Jul 12 2017 The large subtropical high pressure ridge northwest of the Islands at the beginning of the forecast period is progged to remain nearly in place through the end of the week. By the upcoming weekend, this ridge is expected to build to the north of the Islands as suggested by both the GEFS mean and EC mean. In terms of the surface pressure pattern, the pressure gradient Friday and into the weekend should lessen some with a weak upper level trough that should be northeast of the state, before tightening again by early next week. This high will support fairly brisk trades through the period with the strongest winds likely to be through Thursday, and again early next week as the high builds to the north. Expect precipitable water values to be near 1.25 inches with minor fluctuations through early Monday. There is still potential for an axis of enhanced moisture to reach the Islands around Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. On average expect windward favored showers, with some local enhancement early next week as precipitable water increases. Hamrick
