Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 828 AM EDT Thu Sep 07 2017 Valid 00Z Fri Sep 08 2017 - 00Z Fri Sep 15 2017 The strong upper high to the north of the region is forecast to break down and split east-west over the central Pacific as troughing digs to the north/northwest of Hawai'i next week. Models and ensembles generally keep the upper low west of 160W along with any moisture increase, but it is close enough that a shift eastward could bring more widespread modest rain to the region next Wed/Thu. Trades may increase a bit Friday before decreasing again this weekend and especially into next week as the sfc high drifts away and a cold front drops southward to 30N late Monday. Mainly light windward showers are expected through the duration of the period as the region remains in between deeper tropical moisture near the ITCZ and the boundary to the north, though the Big Island may see a better chance of showers as pockets of moisture pass through.
