Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 806 AM EDT Sun Sep 10 2017 Valid 00Z Mon Sep 11 2017 - 00Z Mon Sep 18 2017 Aside from small scale details that have low predictability, guidance agrees well with the overall forecast through the period. Trades are in the process of weakening and should remain fairly light into Thursday. This weak wind pattern will be associated with an upper trough settling north of the state into midweek, reflecting at the surface as a wavy front that stalls just north of the area. Through at least Wednesday rainfall should be influenced by land/sea breezes given the light prevailing flow. Some isolated/localized heavy amounts may be possible through Tuesday with pockets of precipitable water values exceeding 1.50 inches. From late week onward the pattern will transition back to a trade flow regime with somewhat drier air filtering in from the east and a ridge aloft also building over the area. As a result showers will likely trend somewhat lighter with increased emphasis on windward terrain. High pressure building across the central Pacific next weekend should bring trades up to at least moderate strength by next Sunday. Rausch
