Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 803 AM EDT Wed Oct 04 2017 Valid 00Z Thu Oct 05 2017 - 00Z Thu Oct 12 2017 Upper level ridging will continue to build across the Hawaiian islands the next couple of days which should allow for mostly dry conditions and rather brisk easterly trade winds of 20 to 30 knots through the rest of the week. By late this week, all deterministic and ensemble guidance continue to advertise a deep cut off upper low near 140 west on Friday, drifting west-southwestward before becoming absorbed into troughing to the north by early next week. Even though the upper low should remain well to the northeast of Hawaii, the resultant falling heights across the central Pacific should push a cold front southward towards the islands, with a modest increase in PWATs along and ahead of the boundary. Expect showery activity to increase across particularly the northern/central Islands by the weekend, with some locally enhanced activity possible. Early next week, the front appears to briefly stall before eventually dissipating across the state which should allow for moisture and showers to stick around into the middle of next week. Santorelli
