Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 820 AM EDT Tue Oct 24 2017 Valid 00Z Wed Oct 25 2017 - 00Z Wed Nov 01 2017 ...A strong front with locally excessive rainfall... A strong cold front moves through the Hawai'ian islands today to bring additional locally heavy rains and gusty winds to the region as a potent closed low spins to the north of the state. Precipitable water values will continue to rise to well over 2 inches over the Big Island (+2 to +5 standard deviations) ahead of the front with a deep tropical connection to the ITCZ. Flash flood watches and warnings are in effect over the islands. The front may prove slow to work through the Big Island until later this week, prolonging wet flow there, with improving conditions over the rest of the state. Once the front passes by to the east, cooler and much drier air on breezy NW to N flow will infiltrate the state. Winds will continue to veer to the NE and eventually ENE by the end of the weekend with upper ridging just to the west of the area. By early next week, another front (much weaker) will approach the region from the NW. Schichtel
