Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 730 AM EST Tue Nov 28 2017 Valid 00Z Wed Nov 29 2017 - 00Z Wed Dec 06 2017 ...A heavy rain threat continues... A surface high to the north-northeast of the region should maintain breezy/windy trades for the next few days and should be reinforced later in the week as a new high slides to the north of the state. Deep moisture from the ITCZ is meanwhile surging northward resulting in the potential for heavy rainfall through mid-week and flash flood watches are currently in effect over the Big Island and Maui. A winter storm warning is also in effect for the summits of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea where 4-8 inches of snow is forecast. Another trough and potential surface low will slide close to or over the western islands into the weekend which should spread high precipitatble water air to fuel additional heavy rainfall northwestward. Guidance solutions are better clustered today, but still offer above normal spread. A model composite is preferred. Schichtel
