Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 709 AM EST Fri Jan 05 2018 Valid 00Z Sat Jan 06 2018 - 00Z Sat Jan 13 2018 Models and ensembles agree to maintain a relatively quiet weather pattern across Hawai'i into early next week under the influence of a ridge of high pressure. Moderate mean trade flow offers below normal moisture and limited windward rainfall potential. The best chance for a few windward showers will exist this weekend for the southern islands as impulse energy digs on the eastern periphery of the mid-upper level ridge. Models suggest the potential for a frontal boundary to approach the Islands by Wed-Thu as an upper-level shortwave passes north of the state. The front should result in a modest increase in moisture/shower activity, with the potential for some brief disruption of the trades as well. Any disruption to the trades appears short-lived, however, as the models show some consensus that the front should wash out quickly after reaching the Islands. In the wake of the front, models show high pressure and dry air once again returning to Hawai'i. Ryan
