Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 820 AM EDT Mon Apr 09 2018 Valid 00Z Tue Apr 10 2018 - 00Z Tue Apr 17 2018 A powerful cold front is moving through the state today that may produce additional heavy rains today and Tuesday. The associated amplified upper trough over the east central Pacific will sweep toward the West Coast of the United States during this time. As a result, the elevated narrow plume of precipitable water values and frontal zone will subside and blend in with more traditional westerlies for midweek and potentially into late work week/upcoming weekend. Another short wave trough departing east Asia today, will slide across the Pacific and amplify but remain progressive. The associated cold front will attempt to reach the Hawaiian Islands but it appears at the moment only isolated to scattered showers is anticipated. Tail end of upper dynamics from this large scale feature will dive south and begin to help close and cut-off a mid to upper low. The global models tentatively close off this system west of the islands along with the elevated plume. So despite the continuous wet regime this winter, it does appear it quiets down this week and hopefully through the upcoming weekend. Musher
