Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 747 AM EDT Fri Jun 15 2018 Valid 00Z Sat Jun 16 2018 - 00Z Sat Jun 23 2018 The forecast period begins on Friday with a large surface high centered well to the northeast of Hawaii near 40 degrees north, and remains nearly anchored in place through the middle of next week over the eastern Pacific. A couple of surface lows trailing behind the large occluded low near the Aleutians today are forecast to track well to the north of the state, with enough of an influence for the associated trough to weaken the pressure gradient and reduce the trades some. Another surface high is forecast to gradually build in to the northwest of Hawaii by the middle of next week. A general northerly mid-tropospheric flow is expected going into early next week with an upper level high to the west and a weak upper low to the east, This should prevent any significant surges of deep tropical moisture northward across the state, with mainly orographically driven trade wind showers expected. Both the 00Z EC mean and GEFS mean are in decent agreement on the synoptic scale pattern across this domain through the medium range period. D. Hamrick
