Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 813 AM EDT Thu Jul 05 2018 Valid 00Z Fri Jul 06 2018 - 00Z Fri Jul 13 2018 In most respects today's guidance provides a fairly consistent and agreeable forecast for the next seven days. Broad high pressure over the mid-latitude Pacific will support moderate to brisk trades over the state, with strongest winds most likely late this week and weekend. Rainfall will be most likely over windward locales. Still expect a couple pockets of enhanced moisture (associated with former tropical cyclone Emilia) to cross the area between late Thursday and the weekend. This moisture should lead to best potential for somewhat higher rainfall totals over the Big Island. There is some disagreement over how much moisture and shortwave energy may linger near the northwestern islands with the GFS scenario leading to more rainfall. During next week moisture levels will fluctuate to some degree but generally be lower than over the weekend. An upper ridge will also move in from the east and contribute to the general decrease in precipitation coverage and amounts. Rausch
