Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 805 AM EDT Mon Jul 09 2018 Valid 00Z Tue Jul 10 2018 - 00Z Tue Jul 17 2018 Upper-level ridging will gradually build over Hawaii over the next couple days as a broad mid/upper-level weakness crossing the state drifts westward. Expect windward shower activity to decrease slightly over the next few days as subsidence increases in association with the ridge. Surface high pressure will remain anchored well north of the state, keeping 15-20 kt low-level easterlies in place through the week. By late this week into the weekend, models show another broad upper-level weakness approaching Hawaii, perhaps centered just north of the state. As this occurs, expect the surface pressure gradient to tighten a bit with a slight increase in surface easterlies into the 20-25 kt range. With the weakening upper ridge and increase in trades, expect windward shower activity to increase once again by late week into the weekend. Ryan
