Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 810 AM EDT Thu Aug 09 2018 Valid 00Z Fri Aug 10 2018 - 00Z Fri Aug 17 2018 As of the latest advisory issued by the Central Pacific Hurricane Center, Hurricane Hector was located approximately 325 miles south of Honolulu, and moving west at 16 mph. Hector is forecast to make a gradual turn toward the west-northwest tonight into Fri. As Hawaii remains on the periphery of the deepest moisture associated with Hector, localized areas of heavy rainfall will be possible through Fri and perhaps into early Sat. In the wake of Hector, expect a resumption of moderate to fresh trades into early next week with surface high pressure covering much of the north-central and northeastern Pacific. Models show good agreement on a mid/upper-level weakness traversing the easterlies in the vicinity of Hawaii by the early to middle part of next week, with an associated increase in moisture. Thus, expect an increase in shower activity by that time, largely but not exclusively focused in favored windward locations. Ryan
