Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 830 AM EDT Mon Aug 20 2018 Valid 00Z Tue Aug 21 2018 - 00Z Tue Aug 28 2018 ...Hurricane Lane threatens Hawaii with track just south of the islands mid-late week... High surf and small craft advisories have been issued along with a hydrologic outlook in anticipation of the approach of Hurricane Lane on a track just to the south of the state. Major Hurricane Lane is now category 4 status over the tropical Pacific near 13.8N 147W at 09 UTC and is packing maximum sustained winds of 110 knots with gusts to 135 knots. The Central Pacific Hurricane Center tracks Lane just to the south of the state middle through late week. Deep tropical moisture will rotate into the state with approach. This should fuel increasingly numerous showers as winds/pressure gradients increase between high pressure to the north and Lane. The threat exists for excessive rainfall contingent on the uncertain track of Lane. Please consult latest forecasts from the CPHC for updated info. Schichtel
