Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 437 PM EDT Mon Aug 27 2018 Valid 00Z Tue Aug 28 2018 - 00Z Tue Sep 04 2018 ...Hurricane Lane is expected to be closest to the main Hawaiian islands Thursday and Friday with possible significant impacts... ...Windy and unsettled weather continues into the weekend and early next week... Hurricane Lane now at category-5 intensity continues to edge closer toward Hawaii from the southeast. The GFS has been forecasting a hard right turn toward the main island chain through a weakness in the high pressure ridge to the north, and has been forecasting a track farthest to the right compared with other model solutions. The ECMWF has finally ended its eastward adjustment to Lane's forecast track, bringing the eye of the hurricane to the west and southwest of the main Hawaiian islands. The latest GFS takes Lane slightly to the west of the previous forecast tracks, which is similar to the official forecast track from the CPHC. This would increase the likelihood for torrential rain and heavy squalls on the right quadrant of the hurricane to impact any of the islands. Lane is forecast to weaken as it approaches Hawaii and begins to resume a general westerly track away from the main islands. However, unsettled weather is expected to continue into the weekend and early next week as another disturbance in the wake of Lane keeps tropical moisture and instability in the vicinity. Kong
