Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 830 AM EDT Tue Oct 02 2018 Valid 00Z Wed Oct 03 2018 - 00Z Wed Oct 10 2018 The model guidance continues to agree that light to moderate east-southeasterly trades can be expected early this week as a high pressure ridge lifts to the northeast of Hawaii. Another high pressure area builds farther northeast over the Pacific which should maintain the east-southeasterly trades and light showery activity through the weekend. By the weekend and into early next week, some moisture looks to move in from the southeast which may promote some enhanced rainfall across the Big Island on especially the windward facing terrain. West of the Islands, Major Hurricane Walaka will continue a northerly track along roughly 170W longitude before interacting with an upper low to the north and ejecting northeastward by late this week. The guidance continues to show the bulk of the heaviest rain staying west of the Island chain, but some trailing enhanced moisture/rainfall may reach the western most Islands this weekend. Refer to products issued by the Central Pacific Hurricane Center for the latest information regarding Walaka. Santorelli
