Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 713 AM EST Mon Dec 31 2018 Valid 00Z Tue Jan 01 2019 - 00Z Tue Jan 08 2019 Models and ensembles continue to show strong consensus that an upper-level ridge axis will build across the state through the rest of the week and into early next week. The ridge will be accompanied by breezy trades in the 20-25 kt range and an abundant supply of dry air, with PWs falling well below 1 inch, resulting in only very isolated/light windward showers. A couple frontal boundaries originating in a more active flow regime across the North Pacific will attempt to move south toward Hawaii, one Thu-Fri and another by Sun night, but models show these washing out north of Hawaii with little or no sensible weather impacts on the state. A southeastward shift of the surface high by the weekend could cause trade winds to weaken a bit, into the 10-15 kt range. Ryan
