Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 727 AM EST Fri Jan 4 2019 Valid 00Z Sat Jan 5 2019 - 00Z Sat Jan 12 2019 Models and ensembles this morning are in relatively good agreement over the central Pacific regarding the synoptic scale pattern. The surface high initially north of the state on Friday slowly shifts east by Sunday as a cold front tries to sink southward from the mid-latitudes, followed by another trough passing through around the middle of next week. The EC mean is a little stronger with the surface high pressure building in over the Hawaii domain by the end of the forecast period but similar with placement of the high pressure centers. In terms of sensible weather, moisture near the trailing end of the first cold front will increase the chance of showers across the islands this weekend. Thereafter, models have indicated a southward trend for the second cold front approaching Hawaii next week, keeping a good chance of showers across Hawaii beginning Tuesday, particularly over the windward terrain.
