Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 718 AM EST Mon Jan 07 2019 Valid 00Z Tue Jan 08 2019 - 00Z Tue Jan 15 2019 A cold front, currently located north of the Islands this morning, will pass to the east allowing surface high pressure to move in behind it. Tradewinds will become more easterly around 10 to 15 kts through Wednesday before the next cold front approaches the Islands to the north on Thursday. Surface high pressure will once again establish north/northeast of the state by the weekend. The latest runs of the ECWMF, UKMET and the GFS remain in good agreement with the timing, location and strength of these features through the week; although, the ECWMF is slightly more amplified. In terms of sensible weather, there will be fluctuations with the direction of the trade winds and their intensity as the fronts approach and once they pass. No significant storm systems appear to be on the horizon in terms of enhanced rainfall potential, with the normal trade wind induced showers expected to continue across the favored terrain, with the highest rainfall chances Monday night and into Tuesday from the cold front. Increased oceanic swells are likely for north-facing coastal areas as a large cyclone passes well to the north of the region late next week. Campbell/D. Hamrick
