Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 707 AM EST Thu Jan 17 2019 Valid 00Z Fri Jan 18 2019 - 00Z Fri Jan 25 2019 A cold front will drop through the island chain from northwest to southeast today and Friday before washing out over the the area on Saturday. Generally light rain is expected with locally modest amounts as precipitable water values peak near or just over 1.50 inches. Weak high pressure will slide eastward to the north of the region this weekend as trades briefly resume ahead of another cold front that will approach Kauai Monday. Winds will veer to southeasterly and southerly ahead of the front as showers increase. Ensembles and latest GFS/ECMWF suggest the heavier rainfall will be north of at least the central/eastern islands as the upper trough pulls to the northeast. By next Wed/Thu, heights will slowly rise as the front dissipates over the area and minimal precipitation coverage decreases as trades resume. Fracasso
