Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 826 AM EDT Mon Apr 01 2019 Valid 00Z Tue Apr 02 2019 - 00Z Tue Apr 09 2019 Following a pattern that favors enhanced showers and thunderstorms today, models and ensembles indicate a drier pattern would return as the associated mid-upper level trough and cold front depart. Trades should modestly redevelop mid week as a post-frontal high pressure ridge builds just to the north of the state in a drier air mass with more limited shower activities. Thereafter, a cold front should edge closer to Hawaii from Friday onward which should weaken the trade winds once more as the surface high shifts eastward into the subtropical northeast Pacific. By the weekend, a slight increase in shower activity is anticipated as a return flow brings increasing moisture from the southeast behind the departing subtropical surface anticyclone.
