Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 758 AM EDT Sun May 05 2019 Valid 00Z Mon May 06 2019 - 00Z Mon May 13 2019 The anomalously deep closed upper low near 25N 157W this morning is forecast to move east southeast to near 24N 151W Monday morning, then move further east on Tue. An associated cold front will pass through the state from northwest to southeast today, and east of the big island tonight. The greater potential for showers with locally heavy downpours is over the big island, with less rain in the northwest islands. 20-30 kt and gusty southerly/southwesterly to then northwesterly/northerly winds should develop behind the front today across the state. Winds subside Monday as the pressure gradient relaxes. A weak residual inverted trough remains over the area mid week, with light synoptic winds and likelihood of daily sea and land breezes developing diurnally as a result of the light flow. High pressure is forecast to build northwest of the islands Fri 10 May and then north of the islands Sat 11 May thru Sun 12 May. Winds will gradually veer from north to northeast and east northeast next weekend, with trades redeveloping. A well defined ridge aloft west of the islands builds across the islands next weekend, keeping weather tranquil. Widely scattered showers are expected to develop in upslope flow areas in the east northeast winds next weekend. Petersen
