Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 809 AM EDT Tue May 14 2019 Valid 00Z Wed May 15 2019 - 00Z Wed May 22 2019 Today's guidance agrees well with the overall forecast through the first part of next week. One upper high northwest of the main islands will track just north of the area late Wednesday/early Thursday, followed by another during the weekend. The latter should strengthen a bit as it reaches east/northeast of the state early next week. Meanwhile surface high pressure initially northwest of the state will support light to moderate northeasterly trades through midweek. The surface high will drift eastward later this week and beyond, leading to slightly stronger and more easterly trades. Then trades should become east-southeasterly as the high strengthens and settles northeast of the area. Expect most shower activity to be light to moderate given fairly high heights aloft and precipitable water values within a standard deviation of climatology for most of the period. PWATs could be somewhat higher into Wednesday though. Winds may be light enough to allow for a combination of windward and sea/land breeze focus early in the period, followed by increasing windward focus as trades strengthen. Rausch
