A broad upper-level weakness is forecast by all guidance to slowly
move eastward across Hawaii over the next several days, finally
moving east of the state over the weekend. At the surface, high
pressure is expected to remain centered well to the northeast of
Hawaii, keeping 10-20 kt trades in place. PWs near 1.5 in. through
late in the week along with the upper-level weakness will support
some enhancement of shower activity, especially across windward
areas. Models show some consensus that a surface cold front should
move south into the Central Pacific early next week. Rising
upper-level heights by that time should prevent the front from
reaching Hawaii, however, with most guidance showing the front
stalling several hundred miles northwest of the state. In general,
a somewhat drier air mass should spread across Hawaii through the
weekend into early next week, with PWs decreasing into the 1.0-1.3
in. range. Windward showers should persist, but with a decrease in
coverage expected.
