Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 810 AM EDT Tue Jul 02 2019 Valid 00Z Wed Jul 03 2019 - 00Z Wed Jul 10 2019 A weak low level trough persists and drifts west across the islands the next few days. As a result, lighter than normal trades are expected to develop as we head from Tuesday into Wednesday. This allows for a few showers to develop in the lee of mountains, and over locations where sea breeze lift occurs. From Thu into the weekend, a low to mid level ridge builds north of the islands, with the trades picking up again in response. With sporadic enhancements of moisture passing through, isolated to scattered windward showers are likely in a fairly typical trade wind pattern. For early next week, the guidance has typical spread on the forecast evolution of Barbara as it either approaches the islands or gets suppressed to the south. This system will have to be watched going forward for its potential impacts on the islands. Petersen
