Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 833 AM EDT Thu Jul 04 2019 Valid 00Z Fri Jul 05 2019 - 00Z Fri Jul 12 2019 Lighter than usual trade winds will develop as a weak, low level trough drifts west of the state. A few showers will generate in the lee of the mountains and over locations where sea breeze lift occurs. The trade winds are expected to increase this weekend and into early next week as mid-level ridge build north of the islands. Isolated to scattered windward showers are likely in a fairly typical trade wind pattern. Hurricane Barbara, located hundreds of miles east of the Islands, is forecast to track northwest through Friday afternoon then more westward through the weekend. As it approaches, Barbara is expected to have weakened to a post-tropical depression with its central low pressure passing just south of Big Island Monday night. Increased wave heights, coastal surge, winds and heavy rain may still impact the state prior to, and during the passing of Barbara. Stay tuned to updates for important details on the islands. Campbell
