Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 827 AM EDT Fri Jul 12 2019 Valid 00Z Sat Jul 13 2019 - 00Z Sat Jul 20 2019 The upper level ridge centered near 35 degrees north is forecast to remain anchored in place north of Hawai'i through this forecast period, with a gradual progression to the east with time. The EC mean is indicating a slighter stronger ridge than the GEFS mean. A col in the ridge near 145 degrees west is expected to evolve into an inverted upper level trough passing over the state by the early to middle part of next week as it tracks westward. At the surface, trade winds will increase to 15 to 25 knots by early next week as the high pressure ridge increases the pressure gradient. The easterly wave will likely result in a potential increase in moisture and shower activity for early in the week. Once the wave passes the state, drier air is expected to return with most showers confined to the terrain. Hamrick
