Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 833 AM EDT Mon Aug 05 2019 Valid 00Z Tue Aug 06 2019 - 00Z Tue Aug 13 2019 ...Tropical Depression Flossie... Tropical Depression Flossie is now approaching the Big Island. The Central Pacific Hurricane Center forecasts Flossie to pass just north of the islands today and Tuesday while weakening. Flossie proximity will bring some enhanced weather impacts to the state. This will include potential for heavy rains near the circulation as well as into favored island terrain as increased south to southwest flow underneath Flossie pumps deepened moisture inland. There is a threat of 4-8" rains with local totals upwards to a foot possible. Accordingly, a flash flood watch has been issued for the Big Island and Maui. High surf warnings and advisories along with small craft advisories have also been issued for maritime interests. Some heavier showers should linger into mid-later week with lingering tropical moisture feeding inland. Model and ensemble guidance for the rest of the week is reasonably well clustered, bolstering forecast confidence. A preffered guidance composite indicates that moderate trades will return by the weekend as high pressure settles to the northeast of the state, with showers to focus over windward terrain. Schichtel
