Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 801 AM EDT Sat Aug 10 2019 Valid 00Z Sun Aug 11 2019 - 00Z Sun Aug 18 2019 Today's guidance maintains good agreement and continuity through the forecast period. During this weekend a modest surface ridge will gradually build westward to the northeast/north of the region. A light to moderate trade wind regime with some localized land/sea breezes should trend toward steadier trades by the end of the weekend or early Monday. From about early Monday into early Wednesday trades should remain stable or perhaps weaken just a bit. Then trades will likely strengthen noticeably from Wednesday into Friday as eastern Pacific high pressure builds rapidly westward. The surface gradient may relax slightly by next Saturday. Above normal precipitable water values should decrease to near/below normal levels after this weekend while an upper ridge should remain over/north of the region (moving east to west after early Wednesday). Thus expect fairly light rainfall during the coming week with increasing focus for any showers over windward/mauka areas. Rausch
