Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 759 AM EDT Fri Aug 23 2019 Valid 00Z Sat Aug 24 2019 - 00Z Sat Aug 31 2019 Trade winds will increase this weekend as surface high pressure moves eastward to the north of the state and aloft, a mid-level upper low pushes westward to rejoin the westerlies near 30N early next week. Trade winds should weaken again next week as upper level troughing amplifies in the mid-latitudes between Hawaii and Alaska and ridging over the state breaks down. In terms of precipitation, can generally expect the typical trade wind pattern to yield scattered windward/mountain showers most days. Models and ensembles mostly agree on keeping deep tropical moisture along the ITCZ, though weak surface lows moving south of the islands may pull some ITCZ moisture northward during the middle to end of next week. However, model consistency has been rather poor given the weak nature of such systems, so confidence in any specific solution is low at best. Santorelli
