Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 316 AM EST Wed Jan 01 2020 Valid 00Z Thu Jan 02 2020 - 00Z Thu Jan 09 2020 Breezy trade winds over Hawaii should weaken and shift towards the southeast on Thursday, as a cold front pushes through much of the island chain from Northwest to Southeast Thursday-Friday. Models show good agreement that any deeper ITCZ moisture pulled northward should stay east of the state, resulting in merely modest showery activity with the frontal passage. The front should weaken over the state by Saturday, with breezy to gusty easterly winds returning by Sunday and lasting through much of next week as high pressure builds to the north and east. Expect precipitation to favor windward facing coastlines. Models show signs of an upper level low lingering east of the island chain next week, which may bring the potential for deeper moisture to be drawn up towards Hawaii. Confidence in the details of this is low at this point in time. Santorelli
