Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 241 AM EST Tue Jan 14 2020 Valid 00Z Wed Jan 15 2020 - 00Z Wed Jan 22 2020 The recent bout of heavy precipitation has eased over Hawaii with mid-upper level trough consolidation to the west of the state and a slow shift of the deepest moisture just to the west and south of the islands. Models and ensembles reasonably agree that lingering moisture will continue to fuel showers over the next few days as trades decrease in response to the shifting of supporting high pressure from the north of the state to the eastern Pacific. Rainfall may be enhanced Thursday with return moisture flow ahead of an approaching front from the northwest in disrupted trade flow. The mid-upper level trough supporting the front should push through the islands Friday. This will usher in drier post-frontal weather this weekend and early next week in a period with returning trades as high pressure rebuilds to the north of the state. Schichtel
